Country profile

From city lanes
to Baltic horizons.

Lithuania is the southernmost of the three Baltic states, with Vilnius as its capital and Lithuanian as its official language. Its setting links Northern European markets with a coastline on the Baltic Sea.

The country’s appeal is in the changes of scale: the courtyards and church towers of Vilnius, the distinct architecture of Kaunas, then lakes, woodland and the sand of the Curonian Spit.

There is a contemporary side to this picture too. Lithuania’s investment agency highlights technology, manufacturing, life sciences and business services. For Ugandan visitors, students and enterprises, each opens a different line of enquiry.

Lithuania & Uganda

A relationship
with room to develop.

Diplomatic relations began on 15 March 2012. More recent dialogue has identified economic cooperation and education as subjects for closer engagement.

The two countries established relations through a joint communiqué signed in New York in March 2012. That provides the formal setting for subsequent bilateral contact.

A clear offer travels
further than a broad idea.

For a Ugandan enterprise exploring Lithuania, the first task is to identify the product, technical capability or service that a counterpart actually needs.

Use Invest Lithuania to understand the investment landscape. Product trade and supplier partnerships may require separate buyer, standards and customs enquiries.

Explore Lithuania’s investment sectors
Technology & business servicesConnect a capability to an operational need

Lithuania’s investment agency describes established technology and business services activity. Potential discussions could concern software, process support, specialist expertise or a defined service partnership.

Take to the first conversation
  • Describe the business problem and scope.
  • Identify the technical and commercial counterpart.
  • Agree delivery, data responsibilities and terms.
Manufacturing & engineeringUnderstand the specification first

Advanced manufacturing is one of the sectors promoted by Invest Lithuania. A prospective industrial link needs clarity on standards, components, volumes and the support required after delivery.

Take to the first conversation
  • Exchange a technical specification.
  • Confirm conformity and quality requirements.
  • Compare transport and after-sales costs.
Life sciences & researchMove through the right institutions

Biotechnology and related research feature in Lithuania’s investment offer. Collaboration should begin with an appropriate institution or specialist enterprise, a clear research question and the approvals relevant to the work.

Take to the first conversation
  • Identify a qualified institutional partner.
  • Define the research or technical objective.
  • Clarify funding, governance and permissions.
Preparing for the European marketPrice the full route to the customer

A product proposal needs more than a competitive factory price. Check applicable EU and Lithuanian requirements, labelling, customs treatment, distribution and payment arrangements before making commitments.

Take to the first conversation
  • Verify the buyer and product requirements.
  • Calculate the landed cost.
  • Set out responsibilities in writing.
From interest to a proposal

Make the enquiry
easy to answer.

A short brief should explain who you are, what you offer, the partner you need and the next decision. Keep any request for an introduction specific.

Country insights

Beyond the skyline,
another Lithuania.

The journey changes as you leave the cities. Along the Curonian Spit, dunes and pine woodland sit between lagoon and sea. Inland, a lake can become the centre of a very different day.

Follow marked routes and local access rules in protected landscapes. Allow the place, and the season, to shape the plan.

Culture & everyday discoveries

Bring curiosity
to the table.

Food, craft and small cultural venues give a visit another texture. National tourism information points to traditions such as linen, amber and local foods alongside the better-known landmarks.

Ask a guide or host what matters in the place you are visiting. A good itinerary leaves room for the answer.

Education & professional exchange

Find a programme.
Build a plan around it.

Study in Lithuania brings programme and institution information into one starting point. Admission is handled by the institution, so the details of your chosen course should guide every next step.

For prospective students

Compare more
than the course title.

Check the programme content, teaching language, entry qualifications, tuition and living costs. Ask the university about document recognition and the application timetable before paying fees.

Turn shared interest
into a defined exchange.

The 2025 bilateral dialogue expressed support for academic exchanges. That is a basis for institutional conversation, rather than confirmation of a funded programme or a Uganda-specific scholarship.

A useful exchange proposal

Identify the participating institutions, the learning or research objective, participants, duration, supervision and budget. Confirm recognition, funding and immigration requirements before advertising places.

Lithuania participates in the Schengen Area. Use the official guidance to check the rule for your nationality, travel document, purpose and intended stay, and which authority should receive an application.

Study, work & residence

Match the permission
to the purpose.

For a longer stay, follow the Migration Department’s current instructions and the advice of your institution or employer. Admission to a course or a job offer does not by itself establish immigration permission.

Before you book

Confirm passport and entry requirements, the responsible application authority, transit rules and the documents needed for your particular journey. Use current official instructions.

Choosing an application route

The country of destination, the purpose of travel and your place of legal residence may affect the correct route. Consult the Lithuanian Ministry’s visa authority information before making an appointment.

A local appointment

Do not rely on an older directory address or number without confirmation. Verify the office’s current status, the available service and the appointment arrangements with the competent authority.
